Show Me What
Democracy Looks Like!
This is what democracy looks like! Was our resounding cry; as we wove through busy busy city streets; to the cheers of cars and bystanders looking on. And our callers took to varying their vocal tones; to save their throats; and so; in some ways; it became a musical cry. (And thank you; guys; for all that work you put into that!) And you could see it; you could feel it; and we were immensely proud of that. And you will see us; and we will see each other again. Por democracia; of course. It will not die.🎋

I Will Just Save...
A few ongoing notes here; on this page; to honor the brave things people around the country are saying and doing these days; in this truly difficult; heartrending time. We are a deeply democratic people; and we will not bow for dictators.-Ever.🎋marguerite; 19 october 2025
AND ALL BLESSINGS; on all the artists who gorgeously commemorate this political thing we are trying to do; through poetry; art; writing; song. You put this time; and this song!-And this movement; forever into people's hearts; and into history. And there is no more beautiful thing; than people speaking out for humanity. Here is, The Ballad of the Portland Frog Brigade. You will unequivocally love it. And thanks for the brave protestors who peacefully hold their ground; again and again. And thanks to my husband for sharing it! See you at the next rally then.🎋marguerite; 19 october 2025
AND HERE IS more important news; from our brave frog friends in Portland.-We love them!🎋marguerite; 20 october 2025
24 October 2025...
From the Congresswoman Jayapal; this speaks to me; as i am immigrant; of course.-"We are a country uniquely tied to our immigrant identity, and if you want to come for immigrants, you have to go through ALL of us." And i believe that. My father taught us that too; who always had a unique sympathy for the oppressed people; as he came of age in World War Two. When he first had a bit extra to spare; he wrote a check for the NAACP. I was proud of him. He modeled important things for all of us.🎋marguerite
22 October 2025...
Marguerite's Status; Sad.-Now that our beautiful march is done. And wondering; what will come next; what can come next? And wondering where all this will end. Their relentless disrespectful tone towards us; and towards our history.-And their recent destruction of the East Wing of the White House.-Which is; of course; the People's House; with a bulldozer.-Without working with other historical and governmental agencies who have an agency over that; seems a deeply disturbing dangerous symbol. Of their intent; with regard to the future of our land. (These notes inspired by a recent image in the New York Times.) Or rather; induced by. But can we not have more action; more protest? Before it is too late; before it is all gone? To keep the people engaged; and informed.-It so deeply saddens me. We had what everyone in the whole world wanted! But it seems almost completely gone now. My family came from Holland; in the postwar.-We came here for opportunity; Democracy. I will stick around; to see it through. Though this is a horror show for me.-But stick around; and welcome in. We all need to keep talking.🎋marguerite bloem
18 October 2025!
I almost overslept today; intending to be so ready for our march! (Because i was tossing and turning; having nightmares; about ICE.) That is what they mean to do to us. But today; by full light of day; we showed them! And our day; and our palpable solidarity; were so beautiful; and i am so proud of my city.-Were you there?! And even though i am nearly seventy years old; i never grow tired of marching for those days; and my old bones are happy when i march!
I read that around the country; the numbers were awesome too. And that there were even some marches; in Europe; and around the world; in solidarity with us. THAT MEANS EVERYTHING TO ME!-Hi Europe; hi world! I don't feel so lonely then. It is good to have friends. In our country; they estimate there were 7 million people marching yesterday. And seven seems a small number; yes; but one million is a big number! And so; seven of those. Compared to our June march; which was a deeply impressive and dedicated and determined 4 to 6 million people.-Because clearly; we do not intend to stop; in our defense of democracy. My old bones are tired today. But they surely were not yesterday!!
See you on the streets for our next action then. Because we cannot stop; we absolutely cannot lose this. So keep a watch; read the paper; and say what you can and do what you can when you must. Because that is what we do best! We already had a king; and that is so over now.🎋marguerite
